The question to carry into this week's staff meeting

If a capable teammate walked in tomorrow and said, "Give me three things off your plate," could you name them on the spot? Most of us can describe the tiredness in detail. The handoff list is harder.

Write the three down anyway. That list is where relief starts.

What relieves pastoral burnout isn't more resources

Barna's newest State of the Church research finds pastors less exhausted than in recent years, yet vocational satisfaction sits at its lowest in over a decade: 52% say they're "very satisfied," down from 72% in 2015. The moves pastors believe would help most — extended rest, delegating responsibilities, realigning the role around actual gifts — are the same ones they call hardest to take. And the most commonly offered support, resources and curriculum, ranks last in helpfulness. Barna's practical starting point: name three to five responsibilities that could reasonably be handed off.

Delegation stalls for one honest reason: there has to be someone to hand things to.

Signal · your neighbors

A politically "purple" North Carolina congregation raised $17,000 in $25 and $50 checks and retired over $2.2 million of their neighbors' medical debt, eight campaigns in. Shared mercy is outlasting divided politics. Read it →

One pain. One teammate.

"Every guest card ends up on my desk. If I don't make the call, nobody does. Most weeks, Thursday arrives first."

First-Time Guest → Member Assimilation runs the path from Sunday handshake to real belonging: who gets a call, who gets a note, who's ready for a next step, without any of it routing through you first. When the research says delegation needs someone to hand things to, this is what a teammate looks like.
