A new Gallup study finds the share of Americans who say society would benefit from more religious people has slipped to 65%, down from 75% in 2013, while those who'd call it a negative rose to 22%. The drop is steepest where the future sits: adults under 35 fell from 65% to 49%, and women dropped 16 points to 61%. Even weekly churchgoers cooled a few points. This isn't mainly a doctrine problem; it's a "does it do any good?" problem. The churches that reverse it won't win the argument — they'll be the unmistakable good in their zip code, week after week.
